#116 MASTER CLASS — LAYERS OF HISTORY, PAPER AND PAINT

Apr 1, 2026

In this richly layered Master Class, Coach Amy Livezey takes you inside her studio for a start-to-finish collage demonstration that will change the way you think about what belongs in a painting. Amy shows how vintage ephemera, palette scraps, old books, and handmade papers can lead you somewhere unexpected, and how layering paper alongside paint creates meaning, texture, and a voice that is unmistakably yours. Whether you are new to collage or ready to go deeper, you will leave with practical tools, a fresh sense of possibility, and permission to let the paper lead.

  4. Thank you so much Amy. I’ve loved your work since I first saw it at the artists’ party where you showed how it had evolved since you took CVP. The fact that you became a coach on the programme was one of the reasons that I enrolled for CVP again the following year and have continued with it since then.can’t wait to put into practice what I have just learned.

  6. That was wonderful Amy, a rich seam of information and ideas. Thank you so much! A silly question and please forgive it – but – what is the white ‘box’ in which your palette was sitting? It looks so much better than my scrappy black tray!! As my painting environment matters to me, I’d like to try and find something similar if possible….

  9. Thank you Amy! Perfect timing. I am just in the beginning stages of trying to incorporate collage in two pieces I’m playing with. So far I’ve only used bits of paper napkins. Your presentation helped me look around for other kinds of paper to layer in and gave me encouragement to cover up my precious babies. I appreciated seeing how much you added and removed paint. Thank you also for your conceptual suggestions at the end about being sure all the layers relate well together. Super helpful.

  10. Thank you Amy. I very much enjoyed watching your creation emerge and how willing you were to let go of elements that had looked well. The unifying process was also great. I feel inspired to be brave and give collage a go!

    • I think having plenty of paper materials at hand makes it easier to let go of those elements. That’s one way “abundance” can really help you!
