#116 MASTER CLASS — LAYERS OF HISTORY, PAPER AND PAINT

In this richly layered Master Class, Coach Amy Livezey takes you inside her studio for a start-to-finish collage demonstration that will change the way you think about what belongs in a painting. Amy shows how vintage ephemera, palette scraps, old books, and handmade papers can lead you somewhere unexpected, and how layering paper alongside paint creates meaning, texture, and a voice that is unmistakably yours. Whether you are new to collage or ready to go deeper, you will leave with practical tools, a fresh sense of possibility, and permission to let the paper lead.

Oh Amy, you are so inspiring! Thank you for sharing; it meant a lot to me!!!
I loved this masterclass Amy. It’s always a joy to see you work. The way you integrate the papers and paint perfectly evokes the time and place you are interested in and I feel like the work really honours the lives of the people you depict. I will be watching this over and over I’m sure.
Wow, amazing Amy, thanks a lot for this masterclass. I love it.
Thank you so much for this master class, Amy, I love your process, your work and it is so fascinating watching you, I will definitely rewatch this again!
Loved this Amy, it was fabulous! I learned a lot from you in just this one class! Great tips on toning things down. I cannot wait to put all these new ideas into paper. Thank you so much for sharing. I’ll be watching this a few times!
Wonderful to see your process, Amy. It is very inspiring. Lots of ideas to try!
Amy, I felt how much you experimented in so many ways – you just kept choosing and positioning, etc. it’s helpful to see that part of your process.. At times it looked like it was going wrong, but then… voila. You seem to trust each step will get you to the next. My goal. Thank you.
Question: I have a hard time washing gloss medium off my hands. Remnants are sometimes still on my fingers when I wake up the next morning even though I do scrub with sap and water. Nay tips?? I have been substituting Elmers glue to make clean up easier.
Christine, try hand sanitizer. Works on glue and acrylic so far for me.
Great tip, Marla – I’m going to try that.
I often wear gloves when I’m working, but not always. I use GOJO NATURAL ORANGE Pumice Hand Cleaner to wash up with if I’ve got a stubborn gloss medium coating on my hands. It has extra scrubbing action with the pumice.
Fabulous class Amy! I have papers, mostly vintage from my family records, but I collect a lot from day to day, the mail, etc….Haven’t used almost any of it and now I’m so inspired, can’t wait to incorporate it in my paintings, so many ideas! thank you!
Yes, give it a go! It’s easy to get buried in those papers, once you get started collecting them.
Such a wonderful Master Class, Amy, thank you. I could watch you paint all day long! Very inspiring.
So, so many ideas swirling through my head now. Thank you, Amy. I will watch this again and again! Thank you!
