#116 MASTER CLASS — LAYERS OF HISTORY, PAPER AND PAINT

Apr 1, 2026

In this richly layered Master Class, Coach Amy Livezey takes you inside her studio for a start-to-finish collage demonstration that will change the way you think about what belongs in a painting. Amy shows how vintage ephemera, palette scraps, old books, and handmade papers can lead you somewhere unexpected, and how layering paper alongside paint creates meaning, texture, and a voice that is unmistakably yours. Whether you are new to collage or ready to go deeper, you will leave with practical tools, a fresh sense of possibility, and permission to let the paper lead.

  2. Thank you, Amy! This is a very inspiring and instructive session. I’m intrigued by one of your tools—it looked like a cordless sander for leveling your texture. Can you tell us a little bit about that?

    • Denise, my sander is a “Bosch 120-Volt 2.5 -Amp Variable Speed Random orbital Sander with Dust Management”. It actually does have a cord. I like that it has a dust collector and a filter attached, but I still wear a mask when I use it, and definitely use it outdoors when at all possible. It’s great for general sanding over a large area, as I was doing, but when I have a specific area I want to sand down, I do that by hand with sandpaper.
