#116 MASTER CLASS — LAYERS OF HISTORY, PAPER AND PAINT

In this richly layered Master Class, Coach Amy Livezey takes you inside her studio for a start-to-finish collage demonstration that will change the way you think about what belongs in a painting. Amy shows how vintage ephemera, palette scraps, old books, and handmade papers can lead you somewhere unexpected, and how layering paper alongside paint creates meaning, texture, and a voice that is unmistakably yours. Whether you are new to collage or ready to go deeper, you will leave with practical tools, a fresh sense of possibility, and permission to let the paper lead.

Amy, you are phenomenal artist. I love your work & to see you create one from start to finish was a dream come true. The way you painted her face with a relatively large brush was just mind blowing.
I’m glad you noticed the brush size, Nancy! It took me a long time to start so generally and wait until much later to reach for a smaller brush (if ever!)
Amy, I so much enjoyed watching this one! I love the process, and it was very inspirational – I particularly enjoyed watching how you combine the paint with the paper to create such a wonderfully integrated overall piece. Thank you so much for this one!
Thanks Amy! Loved watching you work! Your intuition is really tuned to finding and using just the right element for the composition. I also appreciate your skill with painting people in your work.
This was great! Fun and interesting to see the whole process. 😊
What an incredibly generous masterclass, Amy! 🥰 I was SO looking forward to this one, and it’s so funny to see that we both have so many of the same types of papers! ☺️ I was always curious how you integrated the figures into your paintings so well, and how you managed to create such quiet, calm areas (something I’ve been struggling with). I’ll be rewatching this one for sure… THANK YOU!
Those papers can be so inspiring, can’t they?
Amy, it is so fascinating to watch you working on your art, so well explained and so much fun to see each step you take! Thank you so much, I really learned a lot watching your video!
Time to gather papers of all sorts! Thank you again!
I am also in love with collage and paper and this demonstration gave me so many ideas on layering over and over again to not have things be so precious. Thank you for such a good demonstration.
You got it, Patty!
Oh, Amy. I have longed to see how to compose your paper shapes, sizes, textures and colors AND PEOPLE! WITH your paint…and you did not disappoint. I will watch again and again, not to copy per se, but to feel at home with trusting that the next step will emerge and I don’t have to think/plan ahead. Presence in painting comes from presence in life and you are a perfect mentor for both! Thank you sooo much.
So glad you have some good takeaways, Faith!
Thanks so much Amy for this demo! Loved all your info on obtaining different papers and seeing you work through an entire painting! Great inspiration!
Thx. Amy. This was fabulous! I really appreciate how much of your process you shared.
