#109 AMY DURY

Step inside the world of Amy Dury, where vintage family photos and old home movies are reimagined into bold, off-kilter figurative paintings. In this conversation with Nicholas, Amy shares how she trusts her instincts to choose imagery, leans into unexpected color, and intentionally builds in those “bumps in the road” that make her work so captivating.
At the crossroads of a sabbatical, Amy opens up about what’s next: scaling up, taking risks, and digging even deeper into the stories that connect us all. Definitely worth a watch.

What a great interview! I was already a HUGE fan of Amy’s work, but hearing her talk about her process is so inspiring!! Thank you for this!!
Thanks Nick for a great interview and introducing me to Amy Dury.
Very sensitive interview. Really nice.
This is a wonderful conversation. Thank you for introducing me to AMY Dury. Your questions and discussion were excellent, Nick.
thank you for a wonderful overview of Amy’s work and in-depth info on her approach. Amy’s use of photographs and morphing images into an amazing paintings with realism/abstractive feel to them. Also having a distinctive quality and essence of time and place that go beyond the initial thought/photo you’ve played off of.
I particularly had an aha moment when you described having another artist’s painting/work nearby your current painting, so you can “riff” off their style or palette. How often do we admire other’s works so much and wish we could do “what they do” and you’ve basically given yourself permission to take “nuggets” from other’s works and implement them into your masterpiece. Hence, they become part of your new style and yours alone. That’s how we grow. Amazing ideas and I loved listening to you both! Thank you!
What a great interview Nick! I especially love your last question and Amy’s answer. Beautiful!
So good on all levels.
