![ONE ON ONE CRITIQUE 108 – Laura Lloyd-Henry (Kate) [release1]](https://art2lifeacademy.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/ONE-ON-ONE-CRITIQUE-108-Laura-Lloyd-Henry-Kate-release1.jpg)
Join Coach Kate Rhodes as she works with artist Laura Lloyd-Henry, whose background in architecture and graphic design shows up in her love of squares, lines, grids, and bold color. Laura’s ready to push her work further, to strengthen composition, add more impactful marks, expand her color range, and move beyond the point where paintings stall before reaching their full potential to that final wow factor. Kate will help her explore what’s next, including how to scale up and strengthen her true voice. If you want to add more punch in your work, you’ll walk away with fresh ideas to try in your own studio.

Kate, this was a wonderful 1:1 session with Laura. I learnt so much from your tips. Thanks, Laura, for asking for the critique. I have an architecture background, and I can see a lot of similarities in the way we think. I am following you on Instagram.
Great conversational critique! Thank you, Kate and Laura!
Kate, I just watched this wonderful and insightful interview with Laura. As I also come from a graphic design background and have always been enamored with architecture, the similarities were like you were talking to me. So many helpful suggestions. And I love Laura’s work and willingness to be transparent and open. Thank you, thank you!
A really interesting discussion – huge thank you to both of you.
Kate and Laura, thank you both so much for an such an excellent and informative interview–one of the best I’ve seen in the Academy. You explored topics, Kate, that got me thinking about how I can improve my own art and have more fun while doing it. Lots of great ideas. And I appreciate your opening up about your own work, Laura, and showing your vulnerability..Lovely artwork. Definitely worth a rewatch!
Thank you both so much! I think we all learned a lot about noticing what we notice in our day to day lives. There are ways to translate that careful attention onto the canvas or paper and move forward with our art.
Super helpful critique full of great ideas.
I think the quote is Einstein! Thank you so much
Thank you so much Kate and Laura. I loved how Kate explored Laura’s desire to push her work .. the questions, ideas, suggestions, and yes, the shared challenges. Very inspiring!
Great interview! So many great ideas! Thank you both.
Love your work
Missed this critique last week but just viewed the session right now.
I must admit this has been one of
the best critiques I’ve seen.
Thank-you Laura for sharing your challenges and Kate for her insights and direction.
Laura it was a pleasure meeting you in the break out room this last Friday mixer. I’m so glad I watched this. Thank you
enjoying this journey together.
I’ll watch for your posts🐬💦
It was nice to meet you too Elaine during this past Friday’s Mixer session. Thank you for your kind words about my work and glad you enjoyed the critique.
Kate, Your questioning depth and suggestions were extremely enlightening. Fabulous interview and critique! I have new ideas and approaches as I move toward simplification. Academy posts are so so helpful to move my work from ho-hum to eye-catching.
I am currently entering my second exhibit and you have helped me understand how my pieces can be calmer, yet more impactful.
Laura, Thank you for your willingness and vulnerability for this critique. I’ll be watching for the transformation and cheering from afar.
