  2. Kate this was a brilliant, informative presentation/MasterClass! I am blown away by the amount of information you shared and has enlightened me into this dormant medium of charcoal and graphite sticks, quietly living in my paint box! Thank you for this excellent presentation! I’m hyped! 🙂 Barb

  3. Hi Kate!
Your love and personal take on the medium and your wonderful choice of masters using line and mark making just made my monday. and is gently seducing me back to the drawing board. Thank you enormously for your most inspiring presentation.
I struggle with value(everything ending up in midvalue land ) and compensate by using color so maybe its time to get messy with charcoal and pencil and ink to discover that range of value. .any other suggestions would be appreciated.

    • Oh thank you Anna, so pleased that you are feeling seduced! And yes, occasionally working in black and white is the key to making progress. Colour can distract us from seeing what is actually going on in a picture, where as black and white strips things back to the essentials – it makes us focus on light and dark, shape, balance, use of line and gesture and most important how the eye travels. Enjoy!
