ART CRITIQUE #27 SUSAN HART

Oct 16, 2018

BRINGING BIG SPACE TO YOUR WORK (Suggested for Stage Three; Learning)

In this month’s Art Critique, Susan Hart came to Nick in search of a cure for small shape-itis. Her desire has been to bring space to her paintings, giving room to the balance of the many small shapes she likes to include in her work. Listen in as Nick gives her several ideas on not to stop what she is doing but instead how to work with it to make it better.

In this video you will learn:

  • If a painting is not working, a big clue is if one part of the painting is just like the others.
  • We can sometimes get focused on small shapes when we physically aren’t far enough away from our work.
  • Make areas you love more clear.
  • Be ruthless in your design. Be willing to move things around or vary the size.
  • Make areas as different as they can be.
  • You can have all of the little forms, just make sure you change the value of some.
